Yesterday, Optus has joined forces with the state government to offer full mobile coverage through Melbourne’s busiest train lines as the telco rolls out for underground mobile coverage later this year.
The roll out will be concentrating on switching 3G and 4G mobile services for the City Loop in partnership with the Victorian Government and VicTrack; and will focus on expanding and enhancing the services and coverage.
“It’s the 21st century, we need full connectivity,” said Denis Napthine, Victorian Premier.
Optus customers will be able to access mobile data, like checking twitter or other social networking sites and make phone calls without having an excuse through Melbourne’s City Loop tunnel, as well as Flagstaff and Parliament underground stations.
“Optus is continually investing and expanding our network to provide strong coverage and capacity for a great mobile customer experience, a mix of spectrum, technologies and plans. Our aim is to connect more people in more places, on their mobile devices. As a result our customers are experiencing better in-building coverage, stronger signals and faster data speeds.” said David Epstein, Optus vice president of corporate and regulatory affairs.
Surely, this will bring more entertaining and productive trips for Melbourne commuters.
